Forras Missions

Metro Manila, Philippines                              JULY - SEPTEMBER 2005

Dear Friends and Family,

Here is an update of what's happening with our missions in Manila for the 3rd quarter of 2005:

July 2005

Summer Break

Cameron and Carina started off their summer attending a Christian camp with friends from school and
other expat kids from Manila. They spent an awesome week at Re-Creation Camp located in Laguna
just south of Manila. The Christian camp is run by a missionary couple from the U.S.

Cousin Michael's Visit

Cameron and Carina's 16-year old cousin, Michael Gordon from Renton, WA, spent three weeks with
us, which gave Cameron and Mikey plenty of time to catch up on PlayStation games.

The highlight of his visit was taking a weekend road trip to Subic Bay, located north of Manila. We visited
OceanAdventure Park (Manila version of Sea World) and Zoobic Safari. For pictures of our summer
adventure, click here. This was Michael's first plane trip alone and overseas. We were so proud how
brave he was. Way to go Mikey, we miss you!

August 2005

"Happy Birthday to Pete - July 26, Tina - August 2, and Cameron - August 24"

School Starts

Cameron and Carina started their second school year at Faith Academy.
Cameron is now a Freshman and Carina in 6th grade. It's great to see the
kids actually love school. Cameron made the Junior Varsity Soccer Team
which only 3 Freshmen made it. We believe he made it because of his
height. He is shy away from 6 feet. Carina is in Intermediate Band and
plays the flute. If Drama was a class offerred in 6th grade, she would
surely be their queen. Both enjoy the Philippines and would be happy
to stay put for quite some time at least until they graduate from high
    school.

Pastor Jim Hayford's Visit

Pastor Jim visited in August for two reasons: 1) to encourage and to refocus our existing workers,
and 2) to hold Strategic Prayer Conferences in the Southwest Luzon District and Southeast Luzon
District of Manila to continue to share the vision in planting churches in the urban poor areas. All
events were well attended. Pastor Jim did an awesome job of encouraging all workers. The Strategic
Prayer Conferences exceeded our expectations. We expected 300 to 400 people in attendance and
ended up having over 600 people attend the two conferences.

September 2005

Preschool Teachers' Fellowship

We want to thank Patricia Shirley for getting the Shoreline School District from Kirkland, WA to donate
their old Apple Macintosh computers to the project. We were able to distribute these computers to all
our 31 preschools. Tina held a basic computer training at the monthly Teachers' Fellowship in hopes
that the teachers will then teach their preschoolers how to use a computer and play educational games.

Pastor Profile

    Pastor - Alex Pantua
Church - Word of Faith Foursquare Church
Target Area - Parola Tondo, Manila
    Spouse - Ruth Pantua
    Children - 3

Pastor Alex Pantua is a 27-year old pastor who had planted his church in September 2003. His church
is located at one of the poorest areas in Metro Manila which commonly suffers from electricity black
outs. Pastor Alex applied for a grant and received a small generator which now provides electriciy for
50 homes. This is an example of a pastor who had adopted his community by providing their felt needs.
He is now actively involved as a volunteer pastor for a non-profit organization called Center for
Community Transformation (CCT). They are a micro-financing organization which lends out money to
women with a small business. Very impressed by his efforts, the local CCT office in Tondo is now in the
process of hiring Pastor Alex part-time to disciple their 1000 members.

Prayers Answered

  • God has provided for some of our churches to move to bigger properties

  • Prayer Requests

  • For the health of our workers and our family. Being in a third world country exposes us to many
    different types of illnesses.
  • For our 81 existing churches and 31 preschools - that they will continue to grow and make a
    difference in their communities
  • For the leadership of the church planting project – that they will have wisdom in assessing the
    new teams for 2006
